Vanligtvist s\u00f6tade man med saft eller honung.<\/p><p>I de varma, tropiska regionerna d\u00e4remot k\u00e4nde man till sockerr\u00f6r sedan l\u00e4ngt f\u00f6re Kristi f\u00f6delse. Snart dominerades n\u00e4ringslivet p\u00e5 de tre dansk-v\u00e4stindiska \u00f6arna av sockerr\u00f6rodlingar. Speciellt p\u00e5 St. Croix fanns det vidstr\u00e4ckta sockerr\u00f6rsplantager.<\/p><p>Sockerr\u00f6r ruttnar omedelbart efter sk\u00f6rden.
